Samsung TVs to provide DirecTV interface without extra boxes

Samsung ties with DirecTV for cloud interface

Samsung in a post-event update revealed that all its 2012 Internet-aware TVs will have DirecTV intergration. Americans with the satellite TV service will only need one set-top box in the home for everyone to get access to the same content. A combination of the recent RVU standard and DLNA media sharing replicate DirecTV's interface on every Samsung set in the local network, letting them control the DVR and otherwise get the same access they would as if they were directly connected.

The technology currently depends on having an HR34 set-top from DirecTV, but it can take multiple sets at once and will buffer video in a live pause mode. As many as five shows can be recorded at once, although they don't have to be limited to one per TV.

The TVs themselves don't ship until the spring, as part of Samsung's wider launches for the year.
