Samsung delivers Series 9 sequel with ultraslim unibody

updated 04:55 am EST, Tue January 10, 2012

Samsung Series 9, result of 33,000 R&D

Samsung has delivered a streamlined sequel to the original Series 9 notebook in what amounts to a much thinner aluminum unibody package, but also delivering better performance. The new notebook has also been designed to pack in a 15-inch 1600x900 display in a 14-inch chassis. The new Series 9 also weighs just 2.5 pounds and is only half an inch thick.

Samsung claims that the new Series 9 is the result of 33,000 hours in research, design and development. This resulted in the company's engineers delivering a sequel to the original Series 9 that is 37 percent thinner and 0.4 pounds lighter. All of the components including the LCD panel, keyboard, motherboard, cables, fans and battery were customized to fit into the Series 9's single shell body.

The latest Series 9 will ship with an Intel Core i5 processor and will come standard with a 128GB SSD. The combination enables the notebook to boot in as little as 9.8 seconds and wake from sleep in 1.4 seconds.

The new Samsung Series 9 notebook will ship on February 27 for $1500. A 13.3-inch model will also ship at the same time for $1400.
