Proof of concept creates 4G-capable storage hub

Seagate has teamed with Verizon to demonstrate 4G LTE integrated into a Seagate Mobile Wireless Storage device (not yet pictured) for use with smartphones and tablets. The unit can download music, movies and photos without needing another host network. It can then stream the stored content using Wi-Fi to up to three devices.

Inside, the drive is a portable storage device that has enough space for up to 300 HD movies. It stays powered by a rechargeable, presumably lithium-ion battery with up to five hours of battery life. Any Wi-Fi-enabled iOS or Android phone or tablet can get access through the browser.

The demo is a proof of concept, which Verizon and Seagate may turn into a shipping product in the future depending on feedback.
