ASUS unveils strong new tablet range for 2012

ASUS has revealed the new Eee Pad MeMO, a 7-inch, quad-core Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) tablet. The processor is a Tegra 3 matched with 1GB of RAM, while the display is also a high-quality IPS WXGA-type. The headlining feature, however, is the price - just $249, which is likely to give early adopting Kindle Fire users pause.

To confuse matters somewhat, ASUS has also announced an additional Eee Pad MeMO model, the ME37OT, which also brings with it a stylus. It also includes a 7-inch IPS display but is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz. As with the other new tablets announced today, it is packing Android 4. It will come in 16GB or 32GB versions with GPS, digital compass, g-sensor, and gyroscope. It will be available in both Wi-Fi and 3G-enabled models.

The ASUS MeMO ME370T will ship in Q2 with pricing to be announced.

ASUS also took the wraps off a new, higher-end, Transformer Prime TF700T Android 4.0 tablet at CES 2012. The most notable change to the model introduced late last year, which continues unchanged, is the addition of a high-resolution 1920x1200 display. Also changed is the controversial aluminum rear cover of the device, which now allows for improved Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth performance with its choice of alternative plastic materials. It will carry a cost of $599-$699, ship with ICS and arrive by June.

Further, ASUS also confirmed that the PadFone, which combines a smartphone with a tablet dock, will be formally launched at Mobile World Congress.
