Fujifilm makes X-Pro1 mirrorless swap-lens camera official

Fujifilm X-Pro1 confirmed

Fujifilm confirmed yet another leaked wire release on Monday with the advent of the X-Pro1. The camera is Fujifilm's first with an internally developed lens mount system and mates it with a new 16-megapixel, APS-C (DSLR-sized) CMOS sensor using what the company bills as X-Trans. Fujifilm claims superiority not just to other mirrorless systems but even to DSLRs, arguing that its pixel placement doesn't require the usual optical low-pass filter to clean the shot, eliminate moiré, and potentially shoot photos that appear sharper than from a full-frame DSLR.

The camera's X-Mount lens system also cuts back on some of the size concerns of needing lenses to use a full-size sensor. The new system puts the back of the lens elements as close to the sensor as possible, putting the lens deeper into the camera and cutting back on how far the lens extrudes from the body. Fujifilm is giving the camera a magnesium-alloy and leather-effect body and metal controls to give it better build quality past some of its peers.

The X-Pro1 has the same offset, hybrid electronic and optical viewfinder as the FinePix X100 and now has two new Professional Color Negative visual filters to alter the colors of the shot to further replicate film. Individual color filters likewise punch up specific hues for intended effects.

Fujifilm won't ship the camera until February and won't have prices until late January, but it does promise three fixed-distance lenses from the start. An 18mm f2.0, a 35mm f1.4, and a 60mm f2.4 macro lens will ship at first, with nine more lenses due in the next three years. Leaks had put the 18mm and 35mm lenses at $500, while the 60mm macro should cost $600.

    Honey?

Does this wide-angle macro aspherical lens make me look fat?
