TiVo gets Android app, new Premiere DVR look

TiVo has been busy ahead of CES 2012 introducing a new Android app (Free, Android Market), while also overhauling its Premier DVR interface. The new app is compatible with Android 2.1 (or higher) devices as well as 7-inch tablets. Among its features includes turning a user's smartphone into a touchscreen remote, as well as the ability to browse the channel guide without interrupting shows.

Additionally, the new TiVo app for Android allows users to schedule recordings, browse recorded shows lists and play a show within the app. It will also search across TV, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Blockbuster as well as allow users to delete and reprioritize recordings. For users with Premiere, the app offers more functionality and ease of use than the standard remote.

Premiere and Premiere Elite users are also in line for an interface overhaul for their DVRs that represent the biggest update since the Series 4 devices launched. Among the improvements include an enhanced UI built on a more recent version of Flash that is said to offer better stability and better performance. The Discovery Bar has also been give a revamp showing 4 to 6 static items rather than a scrolling bar of new content. [via Zats Not Funny]
