Motorola hints at smartphones with wireless power

Motorola wireless power video hints CES plans

Motorola gave a clue as to its CES plans this weekend with a teaser clip (below). The short clip shows one of Motorola's signature phone power chargers sitting abandoned and 'crying' through its USB ports. Motorola admonishes followers to "stay unplugged" and makes clear that more will be shown at CES 2012.

No immediate clues have emerged as to what, exactly, Motorola would show at CES. Unlike last year, where multiple clear codenames had emerged before the company had a four-device blitz, tips for 2012 have mostly been silent. Given that Motorola has already hoped to unveil multiple products at CES and suggests that it may have just kept a closer lock on details.

New launches are more likely to exclude tablets given the December release of the Droid Xyboard, the Xyboard Wi-Fi, and the Europe-focused Xoom 2. Any smartphones will use Android, and the wireless power will likely come from an inductive charging (possibly Qi-based) back.
