Apple at work on Sydney and Orlando retail expansions

updated 01:10 pm EST, Fri January 6, 2012

Sydney outlet city's third

Construction efforts are due or underway on two Apple retail expansions, according to ifoAppleStore. The first is a previously rumored new location in Sydney, Australia, on the third floor of the Broadway Shopping Centre. A black facade (pictured above and below) is now covering units 303 to 307, indicating that the finished shop will measure nearly 6,000 square feet.

The outlet will be one of many belonging to Apple in the Sydney area. It is in fact roughly 1.5 miles from the George Street store, and 3 miles from the Bondi Junction location. Broadway Shopping Centre, though, is immediately next to a technical college with over 10,000 students.

In Orlando, Florida meanwhile, sources claim that an existing Apple Store in the Florida Mall will soon nearly triple in size. Adjacent Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn stores are expected to vacate in the near future, after which Apple will grow into at least a portion of the empty space. Mall lease plans reportedly hint that the upgraded Apple Store will span 8,640 square feet, making it especially large for a mall-based location.

    For the FL Mall Store...

    ...It needs to be large.

Moving in next door will be a Microsoft store and a Dell store. The Dell store is already have a kiosk outside where it will be located. Both are adjescent to the tour bus entryway which brings thousands of intenational visitors to the FL Mall daily. Both Dell and Microsoft will have their stores between that entrance and the Apple Store. The M&M store is the only one which will be left standing in the 100+ yards of mall store frontage. The rest will be technology row. And Sephora.

    More than 10K students

Well, it's across the road from University of Sydney, a couple of blocks from Ultimo College and also University of Technology, Sydney. The area has a huge student population. The third floor was added a few years ago to Broadway and has really failed to attract any big name retailers (aside from Target). Apple being there will really shake things up.
