Lexar shows 256GB CF card, Crucial outs 512GB SSD

Memory card maker Lexar has added a new capacity to its Professional 400x series CF cards, with the industry's first 256GB example. It will write at 60MBps at a minimum and is compatible with UDMA 7 devices. It's said to be ideal for those who capture large amounts of 1080p video.

The card ships with Image Rescue software, valued at $34. Lexar expects that it will be out before the summer, though prices are yet to be revealed. The smaller 64GB and 128GB cards will be out in January, priced at $300 and $470, respectively.

At the same time, Crucial has released a flagship flash memory product of its own, with the m4 SSD (PDF) meant for high-end but also slim notebooks. Just 7mm thick, it is available in 64-, 128-, 256-, and 512GB capacities. Performance, Crucial claims, is the same as the company's 9.5mm m4 SSD, which include sequential read speed as fast as 500MBps and sequential write speeds up to 260MBps in the 512GB and 256GB versions.

The 7mm Crucial m4 SSDs are now available, with the 64GB model priced at $119, the 128GB one at $210, the 256GB for $411, and the 512GB unit at $795.
