updated 06:15 am EST, Fri January 6, 2012

Ex-Acer CEO tapped to lead new Lenovo division

Former Acer CEO has been tapped by Lenovo to lead its new Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division. Following Lanci's sacking at Acer, Lenovo had hired him as consultant on different ways in which the Chinese computing giant could bolster its retail operations. According to the Wall Street Journal, Lanci had established strong relationships with distributors in Europe while at Acer, which Lenovo is keen to leverage.

The appointment is part of a larger strategic restructure currently being undertaken Lenovo which will see Lanci's new division as its fourth. It will now have separate divisions spanning North America, China, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Asia Pacific and Latin America. The previous three Lenovo division heads will retain their positions, with Lanci taking up the new post.

Lenovo is now the world's second largest PC vendor after overtaking Dell in the third quarter last year with a 13.5 percent share of the global PC market. In a statement issued on the restructure that goes into effect April 2, Lenovo said that it will create "stronger, faster and more-focused organizations" to execute its new "protect and attack" strategy.
