Dijit universal remote app reaches iPads

updated 03:30 pm EST, Fri January 6, 2012

Dijit remote for iPad arrives

Dijit on Friday brought out an iPad-optimized version of its remote control app (App Store). The now-universal port lets users steer a Griffin Beacon , and thus the TV, with many more actions on screen at once. Viewers can have both direct controls, device inputs, social activity, and the show guide all visible at the same time, with video previews of some shows available without disrupting the main picture.

The app can control cable boxes, the TVs themselves, and receivers, but also has hooks for the Apple TV and Roku Internet Players. Viewers can even use it for online features, such as finding and playing YouTube videos directly from the app as well as managing a Netflix streaming queue or checking Wikipedia.

Dijit needs at least iOS 4.0 or later, although it will support AirPlay on 4.2 and later for video clips that can play from the iOS device in question. The Android version already supports both tablet and phone sizes.
