LG Google TVs to tout voice commands, passive 3D, new remote

updated 07:20 pm EST, Thu January 5, 2012

LG Google TV features previewed

LG gave a quick glimpse at its first Google TVs on Thursday. The sets will work with voice commands much like Voice Actions on mobile devices. Hands-on control will get its own special treatment: a keyboard-equipped version of the Magic Motion Remote should come with a QWERTY keyboard built-in for faster text.

The sets will be among the first to support 3D in a Google TV lineup. Like LG's regular TVs, they will use passive 3D that both lowers the cost of 3D and makes for lighter, battery-free glasses. A special 3D World section will highlight content to take advantage of the extra dimension, and a quick toggle on the remote will let viewers convert 2D into 3D if they like.

An LG Apps TV section will highlight some of LG's own features. Likewise, in spite of having a more powerful platform from Google, LG still plans to bolster its own Smart TV designs.

The TVs will get full details at CES next week, and are due to ship sometime in 2012.
