LG to intro new 'Smart ThinQ' appliances at CES

updated 07:35 pm EST, Thu January 5, 2012

Appliances tied with home energy management system

LG has announced that it is set to unveil new 'Smart ThinQ' appliances next week at CES in Las Vegas. The introductions will expand upon the company's existing lineup of connected appliances, which were brought to CES last year. The appliances will be able to take advantage of LG's new Home Energy Management System (HeMS).

The upgraded Smart ThinQ technology focuses on a food management system that feeds data to smartphones or LCDs built directly onto refrigerators. Devices also integrate a diagnosis system that is designed to help troubleshoot problems.

HeMS enables users to access data related to energy usage for all appliances connected to the home network. The system provides control over consumption during different times to help reduce electricity bills.

The 'smart' devices that will be shown at CES include washing machines, ovens, robotic vacuum cleaners and a refrigerator.
