Velocity Micro preps Android 4.0 tablets, Shine projector

Velocity Micro Cruz Tablets, Shine arrive for CES

Velocity Micro promised five new devices as its contribution to CES. Two new Cruz Tablets, the seven-inch T507 and 9.7-inch T510, will both ship with Android 4.0 from the start (not yet shown). The pair both run on a 1.2GHz, single-core ARM Cortex-A8 chip with fast Mali-400 graphics, 8GB of built-in storage, and HDMI video out.

Either will have a front-facing camera, though no rear camera, and will ship with Amazon's Appstore preloaded.

The Shine Projector accompanying the devices is a hand-portable, 1280x768 widescreen projector that takes input over a mini HDMI connection. A 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 160 ANSI lumens of brightness make it bright enough for only slightly dark rooms and much brighter than pico projectors.

The VMUltra Drive is an uncommon USB-based notebook multi-drive add-on. It combines a 500GB 2.5-inch hard drive with a DVD burner, SD card reader, and three USB 2.0 ports to give ultrabooks and other stripped-down portables the expansion of a full-size computer.

Just one of Velocity Micro's core PCs will arrive at the Las Vegas show. The ProMagix HD6000 (not yet shown) will be based on the yet-to-ship mainstream version of the Xeon E5-2620 six-core processor and will allegedly beat a Mac Pro, although Apple is likely to match or beat its speed with an update. It will run on an ASUS X79WS workstation mainboard and carry a large 32GB of RAM along with an NVIDIA Quadra 4000 for pro video, a 120GB SSD boot drive, a 1TB main storage drive, and a Blu-ray burner.

None of the products yet have prices or ship dates.
