Velocity Micro Cruz Tablets, Shine arrive for CES

Velocity Micro promised five new devices as its contribution to CES. Two new Cruz Tablets, the seven-inch T507 and 9.7-inch T510, will both ship with Android 4.0 from the start (not yet shown). The pair both run on a 1.2GHz, single-core ARM Cortex-A8 chip with fast Mali-400 graphics, 8GB of built-in storage, and HDMI video out.

Either will have a front-facing camera, though no rear camera, and will ship with Amazon's Appstore preloaded.

The Shine Projector accompanying the devices is a hand-portable, 1280x768 widescreen projector that takes input over a mini HDMI connection. A 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 160 ANSI lumens of brightness make it bright enough for only slightly dark rooms and much brighter than pico projectors.

The VMUltra Drive is an uncommon USB-based notebook multi-drive add-on. It combines a 500GB 2.5-inch hard drive with a DVD burner, SD card reader, and three USB 2.0 ports to give ultrabooks and other stripped-down portables the expansion of a full-size computer.

Just one of Velocity Micro's core PCs will arrive at the Las Vegas show. The ProMagix HD6000 (not yet shown) will be based on the yet-to-ship mainstream version of the Xeon E5-2620 six-core processor and will allegedly beat a Mac Pro, although Apple is likely to match or beat its speed with an update. It will run on an ASUS X79WS workstation mainboard and carry a large 32GB of RAM along with an NVIDIA Quadra 4000 for pro video, a 120GB SSD boot drive, a 1TB main storage drive, and a Blu-ray burner.

None of the products yet have prices or ship dates.
