Motorola 'project' for stock Wi-Fi Xoom may hint Android 4.0

updated 03:10 pm EST, Mon January 2, 2012

Motorola may be testing Android 4 on Xoom soon

Owners of Wi-Fi Motorola Xoom tablets in the company's Feedback Network have been getting invitations for a "project" that may be the Android 4.0 upgrade. Owners have to have the completely stock, Google Experience version of the normally Android 3 tablet and live in the US. The request is a first for Motorola and would suggests it wants a device to test against Google code, not its own.

Alternatively, Motorola might want to see what customizing the Wi-Fi tablet will do or implement a minor but Google-designed update.

Access is contingent on being a member of Motorola's official forums alongside the Feedback Network. Motorola cautions that it doesn't know when the project will start as it depends on development times.

The Xoom was the first truly optimized Android tablet and, at first, was held up as the reference tablet at Google itself. Since then, however, it hasn't upgraded at a significantly faster pace than the Galaxy Tab or other tablets. Android 4.0 would keep it at the forefront and give it the minor but visible interface and support updates that are currently only on the Galaxy Nexus. [via Droid-Life]
