Nokia Lumia 800 firmware exposes AT&T-friendly LTE code

updated 10:35 am EST, Tue December 27, 2011

Lumia 800 may support AT&T LTE, Verizon CDMA?

An earlier December rumor that Nokia is testing Lumia 800 phones with support for AT&T's LTE network has just got more credence thanks to a new Fnanapho report. Rummaging through the Nokia XAP diagnostics file revealed features on the Windows Phone-running device dubbed LTE TX and LTE Band Lock. The Band Lock section references AT&T-compatible Band 4 and Band 17, suggesting preparations were underway.

The features appeared after the latest firmware, 1600.2479.7740.11451, appeared for the device. It hints that Nokia has only just lately been ready to add LTE.

There is also mention of CDMA MMS messaging, suggesting Nokia is working on making the handset compatible with CDMA carriers such as Verizon. If true, the smartphone could be just the second Windows Phone to run on the carrier, as Verizon is reluctant to ship Windows Phone devices without 4G LTE support after carrying the 3G-only HTC Trophy.
