Samsung teams with Intel and KT on 4G notebooks

Samsung and Korea's KT Telecom are set to unveil a series of laptops with inbuilt 4G WiBro. Samsung, KT and Intel made the join announcement today that they plan to release 4G Wibro capable notebooks after closely working together for much of the past year on the project. They will be among the first notebooks to feature inbuilt 4G wireless connectivity.

The WiBro technology, which is very similar to WiMax, will be fitted to 39 Samsung notebook models across 5 styles. These include the Series 7 Slate PC, Series 3 300V, Series 3 300E, 350U Ultraslim notebook and the RC530 high-performance notebook. However, the new Samsung notebooks will not differ greatly externally from existing models, but will of course incorporate additional internal components.

Although Intel has not detailed the chipsets running in the new Samsung notebooks it already has two Centrino branded WiMax chipsets on the market, the WiMax 6150 single-band and the WiMax 6250 dual-band. It is likely that the chipsets featured in the new Samsung notebooks will be variations of these.
