JXD S7100 Android tablet packs PSP controls, copies Apple

JXD gets into tablet and gaming crossover

JXD is hoping to target an unusual balance of tablet use and gaming through a new tablet, the S7100. The design mixes a seven-inch, 800x480 touchscreen Android tablet with Sony PSP-like hardware controls for those games that support it. It's using Android 2.2 with a customized interface and borrows very bluntly from Apple, including copying iOS icons and inaccurately claiming to run "Apple games."

The company also isn't subtle about mixing legitimate examples of Android games like Angry Birds and Asphalt 5 with examples of pirated arcade, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation titles running in emulators. It's doubtful JXD would host the games itself in its custom app center.

Inside, the hardware should be roughly competitive with a Samsung Galaxy S II, carrying a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and the same Mali-400 graphics core. JXD mostly cuts back by using 512MB of RAM, cutting the battery life to four hours of pure browsing or gaming, and having lower-resolution two-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front cameras. It still has 16GB of internal space and gains a slight edge with direct HDMI video out.

JXD is selling the device for as little as $140. [via The Gadgeteer]

    Wow...

What a piece of s***. And yet, you know people will use this as 'proof' that the iPad is overpriced and they'll bash apple if they sue them.

    Actually, I was hoping that

Apple was going to come out with an iPod Touch like this with an A5 processor and Airplay, but I knew it wasn't likely. I like those built-in controls and larger display. Too bad. I think Apple missed a good opportunity to clean up on the hand-held gaming market.
