RR2 supports iOS devices for steering
Two small but significant game releases have reached the Mac. The first is Limbo, a puzzle-based sidescroller by Danish studio Playdead. Players guide an anonymous boy who must explore a dark forest and a dilapidated city to rescue his sister. The game is distinguished mostly by its silhouetted black-and-white style, as well as its gruesome tone, since players will die in many traps and obstacles as they figure out how to solve each puzzle.
Limbo is selling at the Mac App Store for $10. Prior to this week, the game was only available for the Xbox 360 and Windows.
Firemint has meanwhile released a Mac version of Real Racing 2, its previously iOS-only racing game. The title sports 15 tracks, 30 licensed cars, and three single-player modes: Career, Quick Race, and Time Trial. Players can buy their way into faster progress. A special feature of the Mac release is the option of using an iOS device as a steering wheel. The game costs $13 at the Mac App Store, and requires OS X 10.6.6 or better.
Feral Interactive has lastly announced that it's bringing a port of 2K Games' BioShock 2 to the Mac sometime in January. The action-RPG is set several years after the first game, and sees players assume control of a Big Daddy as they try to escape a recently-revived Rapture. Apart from the single-player story, the game also contains The Fall of Rapture, a multiplayer mode set during the civil war that preceded the original BioShock.
The Mac port of BioShock 2 will cost $35, and go on sale via Feral and several online sources including the Mac App Store. Players will need at least a 2GHz Intel Mac with 4GB of system RAM, plus 256MB of video memory, and OS X 10.6.8 or later. The best graphics will require substantially better hardware.
