Includes Intel AVX compatibility
Absoft has released Pro Fortran 2012 v11.5 for Mac OS X, a new version of its Fortran compiling suite. One of the major additions is that of the Absoft Window Environment, or AWE, a graphical interface for Fortran apps. A scrollable window provides access to pre-connected unit numbers for input and output; extra windows can be generated through an extension of the Fortran OPEN statement. Window contents can be saved to disk or printed, and menus can be implemented for running various functions. AWE can be set to operate as either a single- or multi-document interface.
Also new to the suite is support for external libraries and tools. As libraries are added, they can be enabled in a project by simply ticking a checkbox. Pre-configured plugins in the software cover Plplot, NetCDF 3/4, and HDF 4/5.
Absoft has lastly added a Matrix view for 2D arrays in the Fx3 Debugger, support for the Intel AVX instruction set, and an assortment of Fortran 2003 statements and functions, as well as a handful of functions from F2008. Prices for Pro Fortran 2012 start at $299; OS X Leopard or later is required.
