Sony updates PS Vita to cure launch woes

updated 05:20 pm EST, Mon December 19, 2011

Sony rolls out quick bug fix for PS Vita, apology

The PS Vita has just launched in Japan two days ago and the company is already issuing a software update to fix touchscreen problems, software bugs and system freezes, along with poor performance. The update notice in Japan also apologized to gamers for the inconvenience. Its timing hinted that Sony may have had an idea the system was shipping with software flaws.

The Vita is much more complex than the PSP and uses a five-inch OLED touchscreen display along with a still rare quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor. It comes in both Wi-Fi and 3G versions and has both backside touch as well as a new interface that supports multitasking with some apps.

With the issues addressed now, it's likely the bugs won't be present in the US version, which is due to go on sale on February 22. [via Telegraph]
