Sirius XM's Lynx Android-based radio spied at FCC

updated 03:10 pm EST, Mon December 19, 2011

Receives broadcasts from satellite or Wi-Fi

Sirius XM's new Lynx satellite radio, first revealed in October, has reached the FCC for approval. The radio will be one of the first devices to support Sirius's expanded broadcast capabilities. The portable audio device runs a modified version of Android and is one of the few devices outside of phones and tablets to get the treatment.

The Lynx OS is based on a STMicro processor. Befitting the OS, it depends on a color touchscreen control panel and Wi-Fi support. Listeners can use the Wi-Fi to browse, select and rewind shows from up to 5 hours in the past. It can capture up to 200 hours of programming from up to five channels simultaneously. It can also stream audio to other devices using Bluetooth.

The Lynx, priced at $250, is currently available from Crutchfield as a pre-order. Sirius has not revealed when the radio will ship. [via Wireless Goodness]
