Razer delays Tiamat headset to late January

updated 10:10 pm EST, Mon December 19, 2011

First interested parties to get t-shirt and flask

Razer has announced that its Tiamat 7.1 surround-sound gaming headset, which was first unveiled in August, will not arrive before the holidays. The company suggests it is still working on "final touches," pushing the expected launch date back to late January.

"We want to be sure that what you get is going to blow your ears away, no holds barred, and unfortunately like all Razer products, it's ready when it's ready," the company said in a statement.

The Tiamat utilizes five drivers in each earpiece to create actual 'surround' sound with different channels routed to the various driver positions. An inline controller can be used to adjust the various channels, while a boom microphone enables voice chat.

The 7.1 variant carries a $180 price tag, while a stereo variant, with two drivers in each earpiece, sells for $100. The company is offering a free t-shirt and a flask to anyone who already signed up for e-mail updates.
