Mac App Store version coming soon
The epic X Universe series expands with the simultaneous release on Steam and Mac version of X3: Albion Prelude, set in-between the old and new X Universe that puts players in the middle of a power struggle between corporations during a time of war. The new game features more than 30 new ships and stations, an improved UI that incorporates charts to help players see and factor in economic developments, and support for head tracking.
The game, created by EgoSoft and ported to the Mac by Virtual Programming, is currently available on Steam and through Virtual Programming's Deliver2Mac service. A Mac App Store version of the game will be released soon.
The story of the game is set just before a technological breakthrough that will allow for massive "space highways" to open up massive amounts of trade. The unprecedented economic growth, however, will trigger a conflict between the Terrans and the inhabitants of the X Universe. Players are able to use economic and other data to determine their own roles in the coming war.
For Mac, the game requires OS X 10.6.8 or higher, and thus an Intel Mac with a processor of 2.16GHz or faster. The game works with the GeForce 8600, Radeon X1600 and newer discrete video cards of 256MB VRAM or higher. The game also takes up 7GB of hard drive space, and sells for $20.
