LG, Intel to bring WiDi TVs to CES next month

LG Electronics and Intel on Thursday revealed they have partnered up to bring Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) technology to LG's Cinema 3D Smart TVs. When the TV sets launch next year, they will be the first to have WiDi embedded inside. It will allow users to wirelessly stream high-definition content from their notebooks and other portable devices onto their TVs.

Other than locally-stored content, the new feature will also send YouTube videos and streaming TV shows from other sites to the TV sets. The tech uses existing Wi-Fi chips to send the data. The tech is also said not to be a heavy drain on resources, as it can run in the background while users run.

More on the alliance, including demonstrations and a product showcase, will be shown at the CES expo next month.
