Facebook Timeline spreads to countries and apps

Facebook's Timeline feature reached worldwide Thursday as well as to more platforms. After having started in New Zealand, the history-based profiles are available in any country. Any user that goes through has a week to fine-tune the timeline to hide or show stories and photos before they become public.

Mobile users also now have explicit access. Along with the mobile web page, the Android app (Android Market) now shows the Timeline on profiles when active. Both are rescaled for the smaller screen and are touch-optimized. No word exists on when the iPhone and iPad see the same updates.

The Timeline is a major break for Facebook and reflects a shift as users get more settled into the social network and have histories that go back years. Its goal is to move beyond immediate status updates and help to understand more of a person's actual life rather than their immediate circumstances.
