Last.fm gets exploration through HTML5-based Discover

updated 05:55 pm EST, Wed December 14, 2011

IE9 site features pinning and JumpLists

Microsoft has partnered with Internet music service Last.fm to create a website optimized for Internet Explorer 9. The Discover site leverages the browser's inbuilt functionality to provide pinning and JumpList features. Also, by building upon an HTML5 foundation, the companies claim the web-based service will have the look and feel of a native Windows app.

The Last.fm Discover site provides several listener friendly features including Tags, Artists, Tune Music, Mixes and Listening history. Tags are a quick way to search Last.fm's music library for a specific style of music. Artists provides listeners with the tracks of performers with similar music style to the track currently being listened to. Tune music enables the listener to find similar artistys or change to a completely different music type. Mixes enables the listener to create a list of songs for future listening or sharing with others. Listening history provides the user with a list of the songs listened to during the current session.

The site won't necessarily be exclusive to Internet Explorer, but it may take advantage of hardware acceleration. [via WinRumors]
