Apple TV arrives in Brazil for first time

updated 01:15 pm EST, Tue December 13, 2011

Made possible by iTunes Store expansion

Brazilians can now finally buy the Apple TV, checks show. Locally the set-top costs R$399, or just under $218 US. While the main sources of content are iTunes and iCloud, users can also watch video from Vimeo and YouTube, or push media to a TV from an AirPlay-capable iOS handheld.

The arrival of the Apple TV in Brazil coincides with the launch of the iTunes Store in the country. Selection is currently limited to a little over thousand movies, and no TV shows. It usually takes some time, however, for Apple to secure the rights to substantial amounts of video in new markets.
