Samsung may beat iPad 3 with 2560x1600 Galaxy Tab 11.6

Samsung may go for upsized 2GHz, 1600p tablet

Samsung's plans to counter the iPad 3 could involve going for size, a rumor hinted Thursday. It would step up from 10.1 inches to 11.6 inches, BGR said, hinting that it might be called the Galaxy Tab 11.6. The larger display would similarly challenge Apple on resolution: it would use the same 2560x1600 image as a recent 10-inch prototype, just scaled to a larger screen.

To drive the larger screen, Samsung would use the 2GHz Exynos 5250. While still dual-core, the Cortex-A15 base and the four times faster graphics would lead to much faster performance.

The design wouldn't be any larger than the Galaxy Tab 10.1, however, as it would have a thinner bezel that made the display more efficient. Running Android 4.0, it would borrow the Android Beam sharing of devices like the Galaxy Nexus. Samsung might also try to get a rough parallel to Apple's AirPlay through a "wireless docking mode" for playing games on TV.

In keeping with its habit of unveiling its most important products at Mobile World Congress, Samsung wouldn't detail the Galaxy Tab 11.6 until the late February show in Barcelona. The timing could be costly for the firm, though, as it might coincide with a rumored February iPad 3 launch. Samsung isn't due to ship the Exynos chip proper until the spring and may only have its own answer months later.

The A6 itself is rumored to be "very similar" to the Exynos 5250 and could leave Samsung at a disadvantage. Apple may have a more modest 2048x1536 display, but it could ship months before Samsung and cool demand for the new Galaxy Tab.

    Galaxy Tab 17

Now that's what I'm waiting for in a tablet. I want to read my tabloid magazines at full size! Good luck with that Samsung :)

    Samsung still doesn't get it!

why not try 10 other sizes Samsung? For the moment Apple has 1 and it is working. Flailing arms, and spinning heads sounds like the engineering and marketing model in Korea, They keep losing lawsuits in Europe and I suspect, even more soon.
There is NO cohesive missions other than to beat Apple by copying them. That is not a strategy, that is pathetic.

    When in doubt...

try something, anything. "Let's make it bigger, heavier, with less battery life, and see if we can sell a few."

yes, because more then anything, consumers are motivated by tech specs. Packing all the pixels of a 30" monitor into a hand held size is key for their survival@

You can fool some of the people . . .

How does that old saying go? In Samsung's case, I think that they will have success because of the trained gullibility of the masses who are Windows sufferers and don't expect great products, who shop for specs vs price and make statements like "It does the same thing as Apple's product."

Oh yes, Samsung will be successful until we all BOYCOTT SAMSUNG.

From what I've read recently about Android's crippled method of moving the bits around for their UI, I'm expecting a tablet with a visual impediment, kinda like stuttering, only visual.

    Getting there

Number of pixels is fine but I don't necessarily require that density. I think Samsung is moving in the right direction in terms of size, however. But I'd like to see a 14" 4:3 tablet. Then I can read all the PDFs created by those morons who haven't gotten the word about ePub.

    nothing to worry about

Samsung will release this, which just enough changes that it will bypass Apple's whole 'totality of design' etc.

and it will be announced a week before the iPad 3 and the moment Tim Cook says the word iPad, it will be game over
