Razer to ship gaming laptop in time for holidays

Razer's gaming notebook, the Blade, should soon be available for pre-order and shipping in time for Holiday gift giving. The portable was announced in August and targets gamers looking for a truly mobile playing experience. Razer claims the laptop's thin black design with silver highlights was inspired by the Army's KA-BAR combat knife.

Razer in a surprise step has chosen to upgrade the storage from a 320GB SATA drive, as announced originally, to a 256GB SSD. The upgrade trades some capacity for much quicker load times and possibly better performance during disk heavy games.

The Blade's 17-inch display outputs at a native 1080p. It runs on Intel's 2.8GHz dual Core i7 processor with 8GB of RAM, and its gaming focus leads it to use an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with 2GB of RAM, even in the relatively slim design. Razer has placed a small touchscreen LCD adjacent to the keyboard. It can serve either as a multi-touch trackpad or as a status display when an external gaming mouse is being used. Output options include HDMI, USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports and gigabit Ethernet. To help keep the Blade thin, Razer has chosen to forgo an integrated optical drive.

The Razer Blade is priced at $2,800. Although the gaming peripherals and accessories maker indicates the system will be available for pre-order shortly, its website isn't quite ready yet. [via Kotaku]
