Verizon set to launch Xyboards tablets December 9?

updated 11:50 pm EST, Thu December 8, 2011

Launch rumors continue to change

Following a number of constantly changing rumors, fresh information suggests Verizon may be set to launch Motorola's Droid Xyboard on Friday. Employees at Verizon retail outlets have reportedly told CNET the stores are expecting to receive their first working display units by tomorrow, when the devices are also believed to be available for sale.

Some recent reports suggested the Xyboards would arrive on December 12, with the Galaxy Nexus scheduled for the 9th, however the leaks have continued to propose different launch dates for both devices. It is unclear if the company has been making last-minute changes to its own launch plans, after resolving an outage with portions of its LTE network earlier this week.

Verizon chose to use the name Droid Xyboard to fit with the carrier's high-end Android branding, though the tablets will be sold as the Xoom 2 in other markets. An 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch model will be available, bringing 1280x800 IPS panels and 1.2GHz TI OMAP processors.

The Xyboard 8.2 with 16GB of storage will be available for $430 with a contract, while the 32GB and 64GB models will sell for respective prices of $530 and $630. The 10.1-inch model is available with the same storage capacities, each carrying a $100 premium above the smaller model.
