Google said to ship Currents as soon as tomorrow

Google's tablet reader software, previously referred to by the Propeller codename, will officially be called Currents, from current events. It may also launch as soon as Friday, AllThingsD reported. The product will compete with the likes of Flipboard, Zite, and Yahoo's Livestand.

Google's news reader should be cross-platform, unlike the usually iOS-first options. The apps let users access multiple social and media feeds including Facebook and Twitter, along with other news sites. Google+ integration should also be present.

Google was said to have developed Currents after Flipboard rejected a takeover attempt. The curated reader app category has been one of the more popular on tablets and has been partly credited with driving the iPad.
