Boxed Logic suites to be discontinued
(Updated with live Mac App Store links) Apple is notifying resellers that Logic Studio and Logic Express are no longer being offered in boxed copies, reports say. Instead, Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 will at some point migrate to the Mac App Store, though when and at what price is unmentioned. The fate of Soundtrack Pro 3 is also uncertain, but is not cited as joining its companion apps.
Since the arrival of Final Cut Pro X, Logic has become Apple's most neglected professional software. It was last given a major update at the beginning of 2010, and is rarely marketed by the company. In September it was claimed that a Logic Pro X was near completion, but no news has emerged since. The rumor did, however, suggest that Apple was planning to abandon Soundtrack Pro.
Update: Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 have appeared on the Mac App Store. Logic Pro is a 413MB download, selling for $200; OS X 10.6.8 is required. MainStage has similar requirements, but measures 303MB and costs just $30.

Adios Express?
Based on that pricing, Logic Express appears to be seriously dead.
