Apple today held a special press preview event for the Grand Central Apple Store, which opens to the public December 9th at 10AM. An accompanying press release mostly reiterates existing details, but does reveal some facts. The store will play host to 315 workers, for instance, and use not one but two Genius Bars.

The 15-minute workshops Apple has scheduled are in fact new "Express Workshops." These are meant to "offer tips and tricks in a streamlined format to serve customers on a tight schedule," the company says. They may be particular relevant at Grand Central, since a number of shoppers may only be passing through and have no interest in staying for an hour-long presentation.

Why is this treated as big news?

I'm a pretty big Apple fan but I don't understand why this keeps getting reported on. It's just one store for goodness sake!

    Wow!

I'm not one for hyperbole but if anything approaches an almost cathedral-like manifestation of the Church of Apple, this has to be the place. Holy cow!

Wow, so like a museum it will be filled with snooty 'better-than-thou' types? Oh, wait, that would make it just another apple store.
