Google staff get Android 4.0 update on Nexus S

Google rolls Android 4 to employee Nexus S first

Google workers inadvertently gave away that the Nexus S was starting to get an official Android 4.0 rollout. At least Adnan Hodzic and Adel Saoud, and likely others, have reported getting the over-the-air update on their phones. It suggests that Google is ready to roll the OS to the public but is limiting the initial batch to workers in case there are any major bugs.

Major Android updates almost always follow a pattern of reaching stock devices first and, as expected, would make the Nexus S the first phone outside of the Galaxy Nexus. Phones with customized versions of the OS aren't due to get their updates until early 2012 at the earliest.

A phone like the Nexus S won't get the on-screen navigation buttons, but its support for front and back cameras as well as NFC should let it handle virtually every other Android 4.0 feature, such as Face Unlock and Android Beam transfers. [via Android Police]
