Galaxy Nexus gets Android 4.1 from Verizon

The much publicized Galaxy Nexus for Verizon has now received an over-the-air firmware update to Android 4.1, according to a user over on the MyDroidWorld forums. The core update is a baseband radio version patch that should boost the performance of the phone on cellular data. Along with that comes a new screen saver, and this should be the firmware Verizon ships the phone with, expected to be on or near December 8.

At the same time, the handset has undergone an unofficial LTE speed test, with the results embedded in the video below. There are just two bars of signal, but the handset sill manages an impressive 8Mbps average on the downlink and more than 2Mbps on the uplink over four runs. Areas with light traffic could get 20Mbps or more. [via Phandroid]
