Shop mired in controversy
The Grand Central Apple Store will officially open on December 9th, Apple has revealed. The digital ticker in front of the store has changed, with the "arriving soon" portion of the scroll now reading "arriving Friday, December 9." Reports initially indicated that the outlet might be open by Black Friday, Apple's usual retail deadline, but construction workers disclosed that there was too much work left to be done.
The store has however suddenly become immersed in controversy. The New York state comptroller's office is launching an investigation into the MTA's handling of Apple's lease, which is thought to be extremely favorable to Apple at the expense of taxpayers. Although Apple is paying for some upgrades to the space, it is also paying an unusually low price per square foot, and is exempt from a nearly universal GCT revenue sharing policy.
