Windows sees rare increase in web share over Mac in November

updated 10:05 am EST, Thu December 1, 2011

NetApplications shows rare Windows reversal

Windows saw a rare increase in its share of the web in November, NetApplications found on Thursday. Microsoft bounced back slightly from a low in October to just over 92.2 percent. The increase pushed the Mac down half a point from its all-time high, although still giving its second-best result to date at 6.46 percent.

The Internet stat trackers didn't have an explanation, although Windows has usually fared best during months with the most work and drops the fastest during the holidays and the summer, when users are more likely to be at home with Macs.

Apple also saw a drop in mobile share, although not from an expected source. While down over seven points to 54 percent, iOS' biggest dent came from Java ME-based basic feature phones, which unexpectedly surged almost by the same amount to 19.7 percent. Combined with an unexpected boost to Symbian, Android also took a hit, falling back down to 16.7 percent.

Among desktop browsers, Microsoft was mostly sitting flat, at 52.6 percent for Internet Explorer. Safari took most of the hit, dropping to exactly five percent as Google Chrome climbed to 18.2 percent for the first time.

    Sorry, that's BS

I run some large webservers with popular sites on them. November saw Mac use surge 1.1% in Nov, and most of that coming from Black Friday onwards. There's no way Windows grew web share over Apple this month, simply no way.
