Hungary issues Steve Jobs memorial stamps

updated 05:45 pm EST, Wed November 30, 2011

Commemorative issue not valid for postage

Magyar Posta, the postal service of Hungary, has issued a numbered commemorative sheet honoring Apple co-founder Steve Jobs that incorporates a stamp-sized image in memory of Jobs, who died in October. An accompanying card shows silhouettes of some of Jobs' characteristic poses and a quote about him from Erno Rubik, the Hungarian inventor of the Rubik's Cube. The stamp is commemorative and not valid for postage.

The commemorative sheet and card will be issued in a limited run of 5,000 copies. The stamp and card were designed by Barnabas Baticz, and the sheet measures 3.5 inches by 2.75 inches, with the stamp itself measuring 1.6 inches by 1.25 inches. The sheet and card are placed in a Hawid mount and will sell for $4.40 US.

The philatelic souvenir can be ordered by phoning Magyar Posta at 36-1-767-7173 or visiting the company's English-language website.

    Down already

The linked website doesn't show these stamps. Guess they already got an email from Cupertino asking them politely to take it down. :)

    too bad...

they couldn't be used for postage... that gives "philately" a real value instead of something which is just a label. No doubt someone ready to make some quick dollars bought as much as they could.
