Cisco promises more Cius tablets, Android 4.0 upgrade

Cisco to bring out two Cius tablets in 2012

Cisco has plans to follow up its enterprise-oriented seven-inch Cius tablet with at least two potential successors, CNET learned. A larger and smaller version are due in the spring and fall of next year, respectively. The current tablet uses Android but is optimized for business use with a slew of security software. It also docks into phone stations for desk use.

Chuck Fontana, product manager of the Cius, revealed that the next tablets will ship with Android 4.0 onboard, skipping Android 3.2 altogether. Work is being done to update the existing Cius to Android 4.0 as well.

The current version can only be ordered through Cisco business channels and only uses Wi-Fi, but a version with 3G from AT&T is due out on December 1. An LTE version from Verizon Wireless is due later as well. The Wi-Fi Cius costs $725, while the 3G version will carry an $800, subsidy-free sticker.
