Acer: tablets are 'very important,' quad-core rumors true

updated 05:00 pm EST, Wed November 30, 2011

Acer pledges itself to tablets and to Tegra 3

Acer President Jim Wong in an interview committed his company to tablets. Somewhat contradicting his company's usual position, he told T3 that tablets were a "very important category" to Acer. It was the only company shipping Windows tablets in significant numbers, Wong said, and would have a Windows 8 tablet along with its Android efforts.

Wong acknowledged that the "stories are true" of a quad-core Android tablet. While he wouldn't confirm explicit details, he implied that the Iconia Tab A510 and A700 were both real. The two maybe similar with the exception of a 1920x1200 screen on the A700. Acer would be "very aggressive" in being an early adopter for Android tablets, the President said.

One or both Iconia Tabs are expected to show at or near CES in January and to ship in the first quarter of the new year.

The statements are a break from what other parts of Acer management have said in the past and show a greater acceptance in at least some areas. VP Scott Lin and Chairman JT Wang have spent much of the past year and a half insisting that tablets would die off at any moment, hoping that ultrabooks would stop tablets and that users would just naturally return to PCs. Their insistences came even after Acer had its own tablet line andlost much of its PC share following the decline of netbooks and the rise of the iPad.

    This company...

doesn't seem to know what it wants to be when it grow up and while others, such as Apple, showed them the way, they though denial was a river in Egypt.

    What would this s****** know!

All his company does is follow other companies into markets. This guy is starting to get my goat up. He should not be getting any air time for stating the obvious...particulalrly when he was saying nothing when it was not so obvious.

    On another note....

Quad-core...Octo-core....Dodecahedron-core. So what. If it cuts battery life down to 5 hours who wants it.
I nt=oticed ACER, ASUS, etc advertise battery life of "up to 10 hours". What I want is "Minimum 10 hours like the iPad has".
