Acer Liquid Express revives budget Android focus

Acer started off the week by launching a new budget Android phone. The Liquid Express revives the 3.5-inch formula seen in the Liquid Metal and even shares its 800MHz Snapdragon and five-megapixel camera, but adds NFC for short-range payments and tag sharing. The company has teamed up with Cityzi to take advantage of tags both for virtual cash as well as for travel info and reviews.

In spite of its ship date, it's arriving with Android 2.3 rather than 4.0. Acer still skins the device with a custom interface that includes its SocialJogger social network aggregator, although the skin appears simpler than it did with phones from earlier in the year. Battery life is supposedly one of the longest for its class, although Acer hasn't said how long that is.

Price will be the key for the Liquid Express. Currently slated for a UK launch, it should be free with as little as a 15 ($24) monthly plan on T-Mobile or 24 ($37) per month on Orange. No North American releases have arrived so far, although Rogers has regularly picked up Acer's phones in Canada. [via Pocket-lint]
