Rockchip claims to have first Android 4.0 tablet

Rockchip promises Android 4 tablet in December

Chinese mobile processor and device maker Rockchip claimed Friday that it would bring the first Android 4.0-powered tablet to market during the first week of December. The company also brands tablets with its name, and Android 4.0 will be loaded onto tablets running on the company's RK2918 chips. If true, the tablet will beat the Transformer Prime to market with the OS.

The RK2918 is a dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex chip, although it's not clear if that's an A8 or (more likely) A9. The Chinese-made tablets this chip will appear in are likely to be some of the cheapest Android devices out there, especially ones with Android 4.0 onboard.

No other details were revealed about the devices, however. Some of them are likely to be seven inches in size, and the combination of the small screen size and the latest Android OS hasn't yet been seen.
