LG plans special NYC event December 1, Nitro HD likely

updated 05:35 pm EST, Tue November 22, 2011

LG Nitro HD may get US arrival at new event

LG on Tuesday detailed a rare special event for itself that hinted at the possible launch of the Nitro HD. The New York City gathering on December 1 has few details other than its mobile focus and an "exclusive launch" for a mystery product. "All will be revealed," the company said.

The Korean smartphone maker has few options other than the Nitro HD for a launch and has never had a special event for anything but a high-end phone. It represents mostly an adaptation of the Optimus LTE for the US, with AT&T's native 4G bands and presumably apps oriented to the US carrier. Bell Canada already has the Optimus LTE and differs only in the 4G bands.

LG's Android 2.3 device puts it mostly on par with the highest-end models from its rivals HTC and Samsung, centering on a 4.5-inch, 720p LCD. A dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an eight-megapixel rear camera, and a front 1.3-megapixel camera. Its edge might be a 1,830mAh battery that should help offset the power-hungry LTE.
