BiTMICRO SSD controller can handle 400K IOPS, 5TB of space

BiTMICRO to test third-gen controllers next year

BiTMICRO Networks, maker of SSD drives, has developed two new application-specific integrated controllers (ASIC). The unnamed chips are meant for enterprise drives and promise support for 400,000 random write IOPS while handling capacities of over 5TB. The numbers compare favorably to competitors such as SandForce's SF-2000 that only manages 60,000 IOPS.

The third-generation platform architecture gets a multi-core SSD controller and combine a flash channel expander controller and multiple high-speed serial on-chip buses and embedded processors. It can recognize both toggle and ONFI memory as well as well as denser MLC (multi-level cell) and faster SLC (single-level) storage. The platform is also the only one with integrated built-in standard I/O cores including SAS, SATA, and PCIe, thus skipping the need for a bridge or another controller.

The platform is said to be highly scalable and has an intelligent flash channel expander controller.

On the security side, it has full data path protection, embedded Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) engines and other resource optimization features.

The new platform should be ready for market testing by the first half of 2012, BiTMICRO said.
