Rumor has Apple switching back to NVIDIA for 2012 MacBook

Linked to alleged AMD-equipped MacBook Air

Apple is switching back to NVIDIA graphics processors with its next generation of MacBooks, claim sources for SemiAccurate. In more recent years Apple has been relying on a mix of AMD and integrated Intel graphics in its computers. A major reason for the return to NVIDIA GPUs is supposedly a botched attempt at basing the most recent MacBook Air on an AMD Llano processor, thwarted by issues like AMD's supply capacity.

Apple is expected to make the changeover next spring with Macs based on Intel's Ivy Bridge platform. SemiAccurate's track record is mixed, but if Apple is indeed dissatisfied with AMD, NVIDIA is the only practical alternative. It has also been almost three years since an alleged rift between Apple and NVIDIA developed, which if it did exist may be far enough in the past that Apple is willing to extend an olive branch.
