Galaxy Nexus on Verizon now has possible December 8 date

updated 07:45 pm EST, Fri November 18, 2011

Possible ship date slips from later this month

The Galaxy Nexus may have a firmer, if later, release date on Verizon. A new leak from Verizon's system to Droid-Life now puts the date at December 8. Previously discussed dates were as early as yesterday, next Monday, or even Black Friday, the big shopping day the Friday after Thanksgiving.

The Galaxy Nexus is a modified version of the Galaxy S II HD LTE. It carries a 720p 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, here curved like the earlier Nexus S, and will be powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP processor. It also sports a 5-megapixel, 1080p zero-lag rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel camera facing front. As the first Android 4.0 phone, it's the first fully optimized for dual-core processing.

Verizon hasn't made any official statement as to when the Nexus will arrive. A visit to the carrier's dedicated Galaxy Nexus site only offers viewers the opportunity to sign up for e-mail news and notifications, and mentions that it's not an exclusive.

The Galaxy Nexus went on sale yesterday in the UK. Earlier today, Google had indicated that the phone would be available "everywhere" on Monday. However the company later clarified that it was referring to the UK alone and not other countries.
