Rumors: iPad 3 thicker, four-inch iPhone 5, new MacBook Pro

Claim details iPad 3, iPhone 5, MacBook Pro detail

An as yet unconfirmed rumor has outlined minor but significant details of Apple's 2012 roadmap. The tip to iLounge had the iPad 3's dual LED backlight leading to a rare increase in an Apple's device thickness, by 0.7mm (0.03in). The thickness would still keep it thinner than the original iPad but would show a sacrifice to get the rumored 2048x1536 display, whose density would reduce the amount of outbound light without the extra LED.

As expected, it would ship in March, and might be introduced in January "depending on conditions," the source said.

The claim also described a fifth-generation iPhone unlike either the since disproven design or the iPhone 4S. It would grow to a four-inch display and have a metal casing, but it wouldn't go for the "teardrop" design mentioned before. Apple would make the design 8mm (0.3in) taller to get to the bigger screen.

Apple would go back to its summer schedule after this year's delay, but that still meant the next iPhone was in mid-development. It's presumed, but not known, that it would be the first LTE iPhone.

The thinner MacBook Pro was coming in 2012, the rumor added, although very little else was mentioned.

While all of the claims have a past history, they come from an uncertain source and are all early. As such, even if accurate, details could change by the time any of the products reach stores. The iPad 3's lighting details have been detailed and repeated enough in rumors to suggest at least some plausibility.

    LTE Advanced

I'm thinking that possibly the iPad 3 might be LTE capable. And I'm even thinking that there might be some pressure to go with LTE Advanced. Seems like everyone is going to be rolling it out this summer, maybe thats what they were waiting for all along? However I doubt seriously that they will go to LTE and sacrifice battery life.

I can't believe you people are still talking about an "iPhone 5". Seriously? There will NOT be an iPhone 5. Or rather, it is already here.

The iPhone 3G was the second iPhone model after the original iPhone of 2007, named after the third generation of mobile internet (UMTS).

The iPhone 3GS was the third iPhone, the added "S" stood for speed.

The iPhone 4 was the fourth iPhone and named accordingly.

Now, that "fifth-generation iPhone" you are talking about... guess what that would be? Indeed, the iPhone 4S. Twice as fast as the one before, great camera, Siri, and so on. Apple just chose not to call it "iPhone 5", although it is the 5th model.

Thus, if anything, there might be an "iPhone 6" next year. Then again, maybe Apple decides to throw in LTE (4G) and call it iPhone 4GS. Whatever they'll do, it's sure to confuse people.

    just for the record...

the iphone 3g and 3gs share similar outward appearance and was only differentiated by internal advancements - much like the 4 and 4s share a similar look. The 5 is expected to have a different design. think of the 4s like iphone version 4.5 (hey S and 5 even look similar)
