Initial avaiability shuns US market

Huawei has made it official that it will soon begin shipping its new Android-based Honor smartphone in December. The vendor has incorporated a proprietary UI, Huawei Android Platform 5.1 (HAP 5.1), to run on top of Android 2.3.5. Its standout is a high-capacity, 1,930mAh battery pack that's said to last as long as three days, far longer than most modern smartphones.

Huawei officially acknowledged the CDMA handset in September. The four-inch 480x854 touchscreen smartphone is powered by a single-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The handset sports a rear-facing eight-megapixel camera with 720p video recording as well as a front-facing two-megapixel camera.

The HAP 5.1 UI gives the phone some Huawei-unique features, including exclusive icons and widgets. Music listeners can see their favorite tracks accompanied by visual 3D transitions. Huawei's All-Backup allows users to backup and restore data including contacts, messages, call logs and settings, as well as third-party apps to or from the Honor's SD card. A Smart Data Traffic Manager app enables better management of the phone's data usage. Huawei Guard, a security app, scans and eliminates viruses, blocks calls and messages when needed, and password-protects private content such as contacts, messages and call logs.

The Honor will available is six colors: glossy or textured black, white, yellow, pink and burgundy. Huawei will begin shipping the phone to Russia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia Japan and China. It hasn't yet been detailed for the US, but early October it submitted details of the phone to the FCC, indicating it might reach the American market. It's expected that the first wireless provider to get the phone will be prepaid carrier Cricket, which is expected to brand the phone as the as the Glory.
