Tablet powered by MSM8960

Qualcomm has introduced a 10.1-inch tablet, the Snapdragon S4 Liquid, that serves as a mobile development platform for the company's flagship mobile SoC. The tablet is powered by the MSM8960 S4 chip, which is paired with a 1366x768 display and dual front-facing cameras capable of shooting 1080p video, including one sensor that captures 13-megapixel stills, along with two rear-facing cameras geared for 3D recording.

The system also provides surround-sound speakers, along with seven microphones for true surround recording. Other hardware features include an on-die LTE modem, dual accelerometers, a three-axis gyro, electronic compass, thermometer, barometer, and even a fingerprint scanner.

The tablet is not designed to compete with the thinnest or the lightest 10.1-inch tablets, though it provides an extremely wide range of hardware capabilities that will allow developers to test apps and accessories for the latest high-end Android tablets already on the market or in the production pipeline.

The Snapdragon S4 Liquid tablet is expected to arrive in the first half of 2012, however Qualcomm has yet to announce pricing or other availability details. Test models currently run Gingerbread, however Ice Cream Sandwich and Windows 8 will be supported. [via Engadget]
